Friday is homecoming day for the top 3. And I will be following the festivities as much as I can tomorrow.
Kris is already in Little Rock, and their fox affiliate is going crazy!
The fox affiliate in San Diego doesn’t seem to be pimping Adam’s homecoming quite as much.
I have to say that I am super pumped to follow Danny’s trip to my hometown of Milwaukee. Danny’s brother is actually a cameraman at the local Fox 6 station, so they are definitely pumped. And if I know Milwaukee (which I do) they will put on a good show. Danny will be performing at the Summerfest grounds tomorrow afternoon, AND he is throwing out the first pitch at the Brewers/Cubs game (which would be a sellout crowd anyway). I SOOO wish I could be there myself, but in my absence, Special Corespondant Michelle will be attending the event and twittering all the festivities, which I will relay here. Thanks Michelle!

In idolreview.net tradition, the top 3 brings a much loved ritual (at least by me) of floating heads on maps. This map chronicles the geographic origins of the top three through the seasons. The Idol Belt was going strong through season 5, but we have begun to diversify. This year brings some interesting additions.
Danny is the first representative in eight seasons from the midwest. Go Milwaukee! Adam is keeping Kat McPhee company in SoCal, and Kris comes very close to connecting the Idol Belt (I should trademark this phrase) with TX/OK, home to the two most successful Idol alums. So here ya go:

Tonight should be a busy one with all of the guest performances. First, the Ford Video is to Move Along - and the idols looks like paper dolls.
School’s Out is the group song this week, which is fitting for me as I just finished my final school obligation about 3 hours ago! This performance was not as good as last week, but I loved Slash on the guitar. And Allison really gave Danny a good smack, probably as revenge from last week’s food fight!
Ryan talks to the kids, and Danny admits his scream last night was bad and should be in horror movies. I concur. And they bleeped Allison! Hahaha - what was so bad that they had to bleep her? Did she say friggin? effin? I find that so amusing. Thank God for the six second delay - we couldn’t dare hear effin on the air. Think of the children!
Up next is Paula. She is finally off her meds so they are handing over the stage. Pre-recorded, of course. That would have been a rough costume change if it was live! Plus, after the staircase incident yesterday with Debbie the stage manager, OSHA probably requires everyone to wear a harness while walking down.
After the break, No Doubt sings one of their classic tunes, I’m Just A Girl. Gwen is rocking her signature look from 1997 with the colored bra straps and wife beater. No Doubt was my first concert, back in the day. My mom had to drop me and my friends off because we couldn’t drive yet. Ahh, the memories! Gwen was great tonight - high energy and doing pushups on the stage. Loves it! That totally makes up for the bum mentoring week during season six.
Ryan said that we are not getting a bottom two, and that the results will be in random order. All the contestants get their recaps. And Ryan sends someone to safety. And Kris heads to the stools. He seems genuinely surprised and excited. One charter plane heading to Arkansas, coming up.
Daughtry is back and finally releasing a new album. It seems like it is overdue. Their first single called No Surprise, and he seems like he is changing the tone of his voice slightly, or perhaps he is just singing up a little higher than he normally does. I am excited for this album, as I really enjoyed their last one. Yay, Daughtry. And Kris delivers Chris his 5x platnum plaque.
Next we find out that Adam is safe. Not a shocker, really. So how long is the flight from LA to San Diego?
That leaves Allison and Danny. And the top 3 is a boys club because Danny is safe, and Allison is headed home.
OUT TONIGHT: Allison Iraheta.

Cry, Cry baby, is right. I am tearing up just watching this. I heart this girl so much. And Ryan is right, she will be on the radio soon enough. I am also pissed because I lost ALL of my idol pools this week. I hedged all my points between Kris and Danny, but alas, my worst fears have come true (cue Danny’s scream).
In good news, however, my mom has unknowingly volunteered to stalk Gokey on Friday as he heads on a private jet home to Mitchell International. Right, mom? I need exclusive video!
Ryan has promised that we will finally get two songs next week, still short of the three we normally get. Seriously don’t get me started.

Ryan informs us of the accident on the stage - hopefully he will elaborate on twitter later!
Tonight is Rock Night with Guns ‘n’ Roses’ Slash! He is probably the coolest mentor ever. With the most awkward looking nose ring.

“Whole Lotta Love” by Led Zeppelin - I don’t even know what to say. It was an absolutely authentic rock performance, and exactly what I expected. And I hope that this is the type of music he makes. I loved the clothes, loved the makeup, and thought the screaming was somewhat subdued, considering it is rock week. It was solid, but didn’t quite thrill me. |

“Cry Baby” by Janis Joplin - The verses were a little slower and made the song drag a bit, but the chorus was AMAZING. I got chills. Loved the outfit and performance, per usual. I’m glad that she was clear that her other option was Jefferson Airplane’s “Somebody to Love” rather than Queen’s, because I like JA’s song much better for her. And I like that she is getting feisty, but she is bordering on getting frustrated, which can come off as desperate. Don’t let them see you sweat, kid! |
| DUET!
Kris Allen
and
Danny Gokey

“Renegade” by Styx - I’m not really sure how to comment on this whole duet thing. Obviously Simon didn’t know either. They were good, but not their thing. The harmonies were the highlight. Danny has the bigger voice so he was overpowering Kris, but since they obviously had problems hearing themselves on the stage, I can’t fault him for singing too loud. This is weird - a mix between a results show performance and Hollywood group day. |

“Come Together” by The Beatles - Wow - I loved this! I was worried when he said he was singing this because Carly tore this up last season, but I thought it was as good or better! I disagree with the judges 100% on this one. It’s not like he chose some hard rock song, he chose The Beatles–rock, but not Guns ‘n’ Roses rock. I can’t believe they didn’t give him more props for this. |
| 04. Danny Gokey

“Dream On” by Aerosmith - And we wonder what broke the glass globe on stage?
DANNY’S LAST NOTE.
Screamy has come out to play with another contestant, and he is not playing nice. That last note was HORRENDOUS !!! The lower notes were fine, and like Paula/Kara said, he should have gone for some other Aerosmith song like Cryin’. But I was literally hiding under a blanket on my couch during that last part. |

“Slow Ride” by Foghat - I loved this one! They definitely need to do a duet on the tour. I would pee my pants. They were authentic, and I loved the way they played off each other on stage. Adam called her his little sister, and shared his hairstylist–they are SOOO BFFs. |
Well, I can definitely tell you that Gokey was the worst tonight. I really loved Kris’s performance, and think the judges are insane. Allison and Adam were also both fantastic, and I loved their duet. I am torn. I really don’t want Allison going home, and Gokey SHOULD be going home next, especially after tonight. I think Kris and Adam are safe, but maybe this turns out to be the “Daughtry” elimination, and Adam gets ousted tomorrow (ironically, when Daughtry performs.)
Another note: In seasons past, between the top 4 and top 5 performance nights, one is spectacular, and one is a trainwreck. This year, both were fantastic (Danny’s last note notwithstanding)
Just one more rant: As much as I appreciate the new dueting, I still would have rather gotten another performance song from each contestant, saving these duets for tomorrow night (we can bump No Doubt, as much as I love them). I am appalled that they cant fit eight 90 second performances in an hour. The top 3 generally perform three songs, but considering the pattern this season, we will be lucky to get two. I feel so robbed.
OK, so what did you think? Am I the only one who loved Kris tonight?

MJ from MJ’s Big Blog tweets:
The idol stage is broken… Debbie is at the hospital… one whole side of the stage is like a deathtrap with glass and crap all over the broken stage… After the big glass globe exploded, peeps were freaking out… Debbie fell of a 20 foot staircase
OMG - I wonder what will happen tonight? Guess we will all find out in 3 minutes…
