David Osmond – Yes, as in THE Osmonds. Don’t you think that he could use his family connections to get somewhere in the music business? I think he is good, but will the Osmond name be too much baggage for this show? Hmmm – we’ll see what he does in Hollywood.
Chris Kirkham – Normally I don’t comment on the people who don’t make it to Hollywood. If you recall, Chris is the one who was accompanied by a large pink bunny. The thing about Chris is he wasn’t bad. He also wasn’t good. Pretty average. And I know that he would have never been featured without his gimmicky friend, but it was kind of refreshing to see someone average. He is the kind of guy who would be ok at a karaoke bar–mostly on pitch, kind of boring looking, but not bad. I surmise that 90% of the people who try out for idol are like Chris (minus the bunny). I wish we could see more of that–minus the bunny.
Frankie Jordan – Frankie is a mom to a little baby, and her voice has a very old and wise sound to it. I really like this girl. Her sound is different – almost an Amy Winehouse except minus all the crack. I am rooting for her. (Frankie, not Amy Winehouse)
Megan Corkrey – Another “old” jazzy sounding voice and she sang “Can’t Help Loving That Man of Mine.” I have heard a lot of people raving about her, but I have to say that I like Franke better. i can see that the judges see potential in her, but there were just so many issues! She wasn’t always on pitch, she really rushed the song, but I guess with a little coaching she could be ok. Not very pop-sounding, though, so I wonder how far she will really get.
Austin Sineros – He sang Train, and though the judges didn’t like the song choice, I thought it was great! Then he sang another song by Raffi, and though I have great love for the Raff-ster, that wasn’t a great choice. I think he is good. Generic, but good. But he could grow. I look forward to seeing him in Hollywood.
Taylor Vaifanuta – Lets go over the comparisons with her and a Miss Jordin Sparks. Tall? Check. Dark hair? Check. Boyish name that is still cute for a girl? Check. 16? Check. Taylor’s voice isn’t as big as Jordin’s, but it is really pure. and I think her choice of Joyful Joyful really worked for her voice. I like her!
Rose Flack – Ok, so she’s an orphan, she has bleach blonde dreads, she’s a hippie, yadda yadda. Last time I checked, this was still a singing competition, and in any year previous to this, Simon would have said “dreadful.” Maybe Paula and Randy would have still put her through, but Simon? Dude is becoming a softie. I think this girl will be EATEN ALIVE in Hollywood. She is this year’s Josiah.
Ok, get your Idol Endurance on, because tomorrow night there is another special episode. I am willing to sit through this only because having this on a special night is allowing more time for the Hollywood episodes…my favorite!

Jacksonville may be in the same state as me, but it is still over six hours away. Lets hope they have some decent luck with auditions from this crazy state!
Josh Ulloa – He sings Marvin Gaye’s Let’s Get It On, and his over the top performace is memorable. But a little too high-strung for my liking.

Sharon Wilbur brought her good luck Shih-zhu, named Sasha. She sings Superstar, and her voice seems just ok. The guys put her through easily, while the girls took a moment (and a kiss) to decide .

Julissa Veloz – She is the Latin beauty queen who obviously didn’t get the memo about not singing Whitney at the audition (or ever on Idol) but she was actually ok, and makes it through, but I don’t think she will last tonight.

Jasmine Murray – This girl is from Mississippi, aka the Idol Belt, and can “blow” (to quote Mr. Jackson). She sings Fergie, which I hated to the song choice, because it only has a few notes. Still, I like her already, and look forward to seeing her more.
TK Hash, also from the Idol Belt state of NC, sings Lennon’s Imagine. You can hear hints of Davie Archuleta in his rendition, which is mostly good, though a little shaky at some points. he is an old pro at this, having tried out last year (I assume he even made it to Hollywood, since he seems to have made an impression.)Still, this kid has an awesome voice and I look forward to a lot more from him.
Anne Marie Boskovich – She is the girl that they asked to leave to find her star quality, after gushing over Kara for 10 minutes. She did, and her voice is really great. She sang Bubbly, which was fantastic (parts are better than the original version)
Well, the judges seemed down and out about the talent in Jacksonville. From what I saw, it was slim pickings. Any stadouts for you?

…in San Fran tonight. The last time we were here, we found Kat McPhee. I wonder if we will find this season’s runner-up tonight as well?
I much prefer the one-hour audition shows. Two hours is just too much for these episodes. An hour is really too long, but I will count my blessings.
Tatiana Del Toro – She is from Puerto Rico, and wants to be a big-time r&b singer, but she is really just a hoochie with an annoying laugh! I am already annoyed.
Jesus Valenzuela – I thought this guy had a pretty good voice. I don’t know why Simon didn’t like him. His kids tipped the scales for him, so we will see how he fares without them in Hollywood.
John Twiford – We just get to hear a snippet of him singing Overjoyed, but he is good!
Allison Iraheta – Another small snippet, this time of Allison singing Natural Woman. She has a really raspy voice, but its OK.
Raquel Houghton – She sang Preacher Man, and was pretty good, but generic looking.
Adam Lambert – He has a background in musical theatre, and has been in wicked. He is very theatrical, but I like it. I have high hopes for this one.
Kai Kalama – He sings “Smoke Gets In Your Eyes” and I think he is REALLY good. He has a distinctive voice. I have high hopes for him, too.
Ryan said that 17 people made it to Hollywood, even though we only saw seven. Somehow 17 doesn’t seem like a very high number–San Fran must have been kind of a bust. Until tomorrow in Kentucky…

I know i said I would blog this show. I know. But I’ve been lazy. And really busy. But I have been watching, and was SO SAD to see my fave act voted off last night. I <3 you Pearl <3!

I like Gabe and Melissa, but I am really sick of Shawn – she is so awful! And I want to like Coffey but his vibrato is worse than Carmen Rasmussen (who is knocked up, btw.) But lets talk about who should really be voted off next. Yes, Billy Ray, I’m talking to you. Where is Ryan? Honestly.
So now that Pearl Heart is gone, Go Gabe!

So I knew I wanted to watch, but I wasn’t sure I wanted to write about it. But how could I not! Let me summarize the things I already love: No bad auditions! They get right to the top 12 on show 1. That is refreshing. Secondly, the judges are all sane! What a concept! And thirdly, they all sing songs that I know, and I don’t even really listen to country! Ok, one more, the elimination was not a long and drawn out event.
Nigel, I hope you’re taking notes.
I don’t have floating heads for these kids, because blogging this show was a little last minute. But I am going through a little Idol withdrawal this season, so I am latching on. Until I can get this sorted out, I am being lazy and typing this out paragraph style.
Pearl Heart: Wide Open Spaces – they need some work on their harmony. It was great at first, but their voices don’t have too much control. Give ‘em a few weeks though–they could polish up real nice.
Tommy Stanley: Walking in Memphis – I liked the original arrangement. It was a little fast though.
Shawn Mayer: Piece of My Heart – Her video piece makes her sound like she has an attitude. Her range is really good though.
Third Town: Elvira – I love them! They were the most entertaining group yet. The judges hated them, though.
Coffey: Drift Away – His voice is definitely the most distinctive that I have heard. I can’t decide if I love it or if I find is vibrato annoying. It’s really walking the line. But he is so entertaining, that I have to give him another chance.
Laura and Sophie: Stand By Your Man – I don ‘t know if they blend as well as they think. One is stronger than the other (I don’t know which is which.) But they are pretty safe.
Gabe Garcia: All My Exes Live in Texas – I like this kid – he seems really down to earth. His style is a little too country, but that’s just me. I can see his appeal.
Alyson Gilbert: Suds In The Bucket – I think she Is trying too hard. I want to like her, but she has some voice problems. She brought it home in the end, but like the judges said it was too pageant-y.
Ashlee Hewitt: Bubbly – It was a really honest performance. I enjoyed that. I think it was a good song choice for her, although she has a few annoying voice quirks that need to get worked out.
Charley Jenkins: I Like It, I Love It – Pretty good! He has a classic country voice, too, and he flirts with the audience.
Justin Gatson: Drops of Jupiter – I want to like this hottie, but his voice sucks in comparison to the other guys. He has charisma and all, but the singing wasn’t good at all.
Melissa Lawson: Something to Talk About – I love her! She will be a front runner for sure. The judges seem to love her, and She will definitely go over well with the audience too.
The judges eliminate one tonight, but after tonight it is America. The judges voted Charley Jacobs out. I thought it should have been the hottie kid, but I guess there is a different set of criteria for this show. I think this will be a fun show to watch. I am a borderline country fan, and since tonight didn’t prove to be too twangy, plus I love Jewel, this will be permanently Tivoed. I encourage you to do the same…

It’s the top 3, the season is wrapping up, so what can we expect this next two weeks? See, at this point in season 4, everyone knew Carrie would win. Even last season, Melinda was losing steam, and we could see Jordin becoming the front-runner. In season 5, once Chris got the boot, it was Taylor’s game to lose. This season? It is hard to pick the winner, even now.
Although Syesha has been picking up steam, (and believe me, I would love to be proven wrong in a huge upset), I think she is going this week. Jason had a lot of teen voters who are also loyal to the show. His votes will probably filter towards Cookie, with a few towards Archie. I think this will leave Syesha a day late and a dollar short this week, despite the likely-hood of turning out some killer performances.
A David-David finale is fairly inevitable at this point.
But then what? Mr. Cook has been consistently fantastic. He has a great chance of winning the whole thing at this point. I can see him, despite getting a pathetically crappy original song to sing next week, tweaking it to his benefit. It could be awesome.
And as we all know, Archie is having his own set of parental issues off set, so that could shake him this week and into next. And I know I am going against logic and common sense, but I STILL predict Archuleta to take this puppy home. He has his vices: his blubbering stage banter and a crazy parental unit, but I think a week from today, when you see the fireworks, and the gospel choir, and his adorable chubby cheeks singing his heart out on stage, he is going to get a bunch of swing voters.
There is always the upset scenario: Archie self-destructs tonight and Syesha and Cookie have another sing-off, with David taking the cake. And while I could see this panning out as well, I have learned to go with my gut instinct at this stage of the game.
Am I crazy? You tell me…
