Is this the big shocker we have been waiting for?

May 13th, 2009

Paula is mysteriously absent from the judges as we begin tonight.  Perhaps they called her in to help tally the 88 million votes.

The Ford commercial, to Break My Stride, involved animated idols with Adam moving brick walls, Kris affecting the weather, and Danny parting the Red Sea (of cars).

Alicia Keys is giving us a PSA about Idol Gives Back. Noah from Rwanda is singing for kids with AIDS.  Good cause, bad song. But it was all worth it to see Ryan try to imitate his dance.

A top 13 spotting in the audience.  I’m sure they are busy preparing for next week, which I expect to completely rock (a redux of the Adam/Allison duet awesomeness, please?).  The guys are watching back stage, and Danny is called out first.  Ryan asks about his hometown visit, Jamar, and we get to see the video.

OMG, Michelle and her orange sign made it on the air!  Good going, Michelle! (See post below for Michelle and her Gokey homecoming experience!)  Milwaukee mayor Tom Barrett was shown talking to Danny (he came to speak to my high school government class – I love him!)  Props to Milwaukee for showing so much city pride!

Kris is up next, and he reports that Stoby’s (Did I spell that right?) gave him free cheese dip for life.  Like you said, Kris, with that gift you have won already!  His hometown visit also looked amazing in both Little Rock and Conway (See Chris’s pictures below!)  Such a great turn out!

After the break, Jordin is back, singing her new single Battlefield, accompanied by Ryan Tedder.  This is the kind of song that I don’t love yet, but I think it will grow on me.  Decent performance, but the evil eyes at the end scared the crap out of me.  Love the dress, though.

Adam is up after the break.  I didn’t think that San Diego would turn out for a homecoming of sorts – they seem like a pretty chill city, but he had the streaker instead!  LOL!

And while Danny has no patience for any more commercials (understandable, Danny), Adam has requested to see Katy Perry.  And what Adam wants, Adam gets.  Katy sports an Adam cape singing something about Vegas.  Blah, not a fan of this one.

After the break, we finally get the results.  Kris made it! He is so thrilled!  And competing with him (no surprise) is Adam!

OUT TONIGHT: Danny Gokey

gokey

Well, Danny, its been a good run.  And I’m so glad you made it back to Milwaukee!

Simon proclaims that it will be a big ding-dong next week.  Not sure what that means, but I hope it is good.  I am looking forward to both of these guys bringing it.  And some awesome medleys in the finale (ahem, did I mention an Adam/Allison duet would be nice?)

Didn’t know where to post my displleasure regarding the unlevel playing field. If there is another forum please advise.

I thought it completely inappropriate to see Katy Perry wearing a cape with Adam Lambert written on the back. I have no doubt tht she was NOT doing the American Idol show for free and was paid for her performance. American Idol should not have allowed her to wear such a cape and show such bias and it has definitely undermined my opinion of th show

YEAH! I saw me on there too! I am so glad you saw it!! Lord knows how hard I tried to get some face-time and considering Danny’s montage was about 1/2 the length of the other two I am lucky I made the cut!

As for Danny leaving… Top 3 is what counts. He did it ! I am so proud of him!

I think the reason Katy Perry had an Adam Lambert cape was because she’s a personal friend of his. It’s just her way of showing support for him, I guess. At this point in the competition I don’t think it gives Adam much of an advantage, since most people have probably already made up their minds about who they support.

Next week’s finale should be awesome! Adam’s great, but Kris has been one of my favorites from the beginning, so I’ll be backing him with my votes. Either way, the last person standing will make a great winner.

I agree, that the Katy Perry Glambert Getup didn’t sway any votes FOR him and might have taken some FROM him. Can you imagine the outrage we would see from the Glamberts if Ryan wore a “Kris is Kick Awesome” lapel pin next week? The hypocrisy is amazing. The AI producers should be ashamed of themselves. Think about the precedent that was set. Future guests can pimp their favorite contestant……..hmmm……..maybe selling banner ads to overlay on the TV screen is next.

“Danny Gokey, brought to you by LensCrafters. We CARE for your eyes.”

“Tonight Kris Allen is performance is underwritten in part by a generous grant from the Save The Children Foundation” Saving the kids of the world, one at a time.

I mean, really. AI seems to be on a slippery slope if they don’t stop that trend.

MJ, I understand your sentiment, but I doubt that Katy Perry was paid for her performance. If anything she probably had to pay to perform! There are a bazillion artists that would love to sit in front of a captive audience of 35 million people.

And I have heard Katy Perry in enough interviews to know that she is kind of a rebel – She may have had a “blank” cape for the dress rehearsal, and then snuck the embroidered one in for the live performance. Who knows. I think she was trying to be more funny than anything else.

And I agree with Ian that honestly, what kind of advantage would that actually give him? Fans of Katy Perry are probably already fans of Glambert anyway.

Warden, I’ve got to give you credit for calling it early on – you saw Kris’s talent before anybody! He may end up being the most successful contestant this season. He’s got a broad appeal – seems like a genuine guy.

I am sad about Danny, but happy for both Kris and Adam… and I have the feeling Kris is gonna win. Though – Danny and Adam are far better singers than Kris, but Kris has got something special about him…
