2-3-4 night (Top 3)

May 12th, 2009

Two songs, three contestants, four judges.  This is go time, boys.  Who will step it up tonight?

1. Danny Gokey

gokey

big “Dance Little Sister” by Terrence Trent D’arby – I didn’t mind the dancing like Simon and Kara did.  I also thought he sang the song really well.  However, there was nothing extremely exciting or different coming from him.  So to summarize, good, almost great, but not outstanding.
02. Kris Allen

allen

big “Apologize” by One Republic – Sort of the same thing as Danny.  Thought he sang it really well, but don’t think he brought anything new.  I love the song, but if they wanted him to rearrange then they should have chosen a song that he would be forced to rearrange.  However, come on guys, how much do you expect from these people.  They didn’t find out about this until Friday, and I’m sure he didn’t have tons of time to make some genius rearrangement, especially considering he had to prepare two songs.  However, with the original arrangement like he did, I still think it could have been a bit better.
03. Adam Lambert

lambert

teeth “One” by U2 – Fabulous arrangement, fabulous performance.  Well, round one goes to Adam.
04. Danny Gokey

gokey

big+1/2 “You Are So Beautiful” by Joe Cocker – I think Danny is finally doing what I have been waiting for, is stepping up, bringing something different and unexpected to the performance.  This performance was great.  My one gripe now is that he tends to babble on stage, and it is becoming annoying.  Ryan needs to reel that in right quick.
05. Kris Allen

allen

teeth “Heartless” by Kanye West – Beyond brilliant. I have hopped aboard the Kris Allen express.  And hopefully that train stops at the Nokia next week. That was fantastic.  Amazing.  LOVED IT.
06. Adam Lambert

lambert

big+1/2 “Cryin’” by Aerosmith – Well, I think he schooled Danny’s Aerosmith from last week.  I was waiting for him to say that he picked Dream On – I would have died.  It was great, but not his absolute best performance.  I liked his first performance better.

Round 1: Adam

Round 2: Kris

Danny did step it up tonight with his You Are So Beautiful performance, and I think his fan base might put him through, though after Kris’s brilliant arrangement of Heartless, I think he deserves it slightly more.  I think Adam is a sure bet, so it will be Danny and Kris battling it out for the second spot.

The judges are right, though.  This is the tightest top 3 race ever to be on the show.  All of them are superb, and all deserve to win.

(Sorry this post is belated – I may or may not have found an extended preview of Glee on my tivo, and may or may not have watched it 4 times.  Sorry!)

I don’t know what it is this year. I am not an Adam fan at all. Usually I’m all for the rocker of the show but I have never jumped on the Adam bandwagon. I must be hearing things completely differently from everyone else.

I would predict Adam & Gokey finale though Kris is my personal favorite. Should be interesting.

I honestly can’t believe that the judges were chanting “VOTE! VOTE! VOTE!” and encouraging America to vote for Adam. Their point was that he is THEIR choice to win it and people might forget to vote for THEIR choice. I am really disillusioned by their obvious impartiality. Gokey……GO, GO…….home. If only 30% of the Gokey voters actually vote in the Kris/Adam finale, then Kris will take it all.

I’m convince the entire production is pushing for Adam… it’s annoying. The guy has amazing range, but does anyone really want to listen to his stuff in the car on their commute? No, becuase you’d end up bashing your head through the window. He’s just not that enjoyable to listen to.

Oh I beg to differ. But the problem is – he’s the guy you wanna hear live, not on studio recordings, because he does it best live.

Anyhow, just watched the show… The judges are really behaving like children. The whole Simon holding Paula’s mouth, the camera then not showing them but us getting a full report from Gokey and Ryan about it, then Simon (justified) bashing Kara and Randy for bashing Kris, then Kara holding Simon’s mout… WTHeck?

Anyhow, again, I’m all in for Adam/Gokey finale. Why? Because I think they’re both better singers than Kris.

And I think Simon was quite right for bashing Kara and Randy. I mean, if they wanted him to change up Apologize, why didn’t they tell him that? (or is it prohibited for the judges to do that?)

Now, in two hours or so, we’ll have our finalists.

Well, I guess we have ourselves a really big Ding Dong next week. Like I said before, Kris should get more of the votes from Danny’s fans and should win it. However, both of them deserve it, so I will be happy either way. Cabaret vs. Coffee House? Renegade vs. Guy Next Door? Black vs. White? Good vs. Bad? It’s an EPIC finale, for sure.
