Results night: Return of the Pickler
April 8th, 2009
The night starts with a photoshopped photo of Paula and Simon’s heads on babies.
Frankie Avalon was on top of the charts the year Simon was born (1959) and of course, is in the house for an impromptu performance.
The group song is Kylie Minogue’s Can’t Get You Out Of My Head. Tonight, folks, we are LIP-SYNC FREE! (I think. Do you agree?) Holy crap, my wish has been answered. Thanks Ken.
We get a bonus Ford music video behind-the-scenes before the real thing, all to the tune of Britney’s Circus. This was my favorite Ford Video yet!
Adam is up first. He gets his missing critique from last night. He is obviously safe.
Kris is up next. As is Anoop. But Kris is safe, and Anoop takes a walk to the stools.
After the break, Flo Rida, from my neck of the woods (The 3-0-5), performs his single Right Round. There was lost of hopping and jumping. And because he wanted to feel like he just won idol, there was confetti, as well.
After the break, Danny is up, and he is safe. Matt follows suit, and is also safe.
Scott is up next, and not surprisingly, takes a trip to the stools. This leaves the girls. Allison is safe this week, and Lil makes her first trip to the bottom.
After the break, Kellie Pickler is up, who gets the screechy McScreecherson award for the evening (borrowed temporarily from Adam, of course.) I was not a fan of the performance or the song. Don’t get me wrong, I generally don’t mind her stuff, but this one was bad.
The bottom 3 are brought center stage, where Lil is sent back to the couch.
The lowest vote-getter is Scott. Anoop is safe.

This is no surprise. The judges “debate,” and Simon tells us that two judges voted to use the save, and two voted against. Ultimately, however, Simon decides to let him loose.
It was definitely his turn to go, and I think the other two in the bottom group are foretelling, because I see Anoop in line to leave next week, with Lil shortly thereafter. I am starting to see a Allison/Adam finale. Maybe that is just optimism in terms of Allison sticking around that far, but I can always hope. Until next week, au revoir.

I think you should have kept Scott, because he could have represented the handicap side of being blind, but showed that handicap side didn”t render him in any way, just like Stevie Wonder, Ronnie Milsap, Ray Charles, Roy Orbison, and many others. You did the wrong thing and I will not watch you again and neither will my friends, which will make your ratings go down more than you will like. My husband is handicap, not because of his eyes. But he still shows everyone of us he can accomplish something, even if someone helps him through it, just like you should have with Scott. I hope Scott shows you that he is a bigger star than anyone of you that is the judge, because your judging sucks.

Sherye – I would have to disagree with your comment. It’s a singing competition – I think he has proved that his handicap hasn’t hindered him, I mean, he made it to the top 8. I think he will probably still do well for himself in some capacity after Idol, but to keep him around just because he has a handicap is silly. It was his time to go, there are better singers in the competition.
I just wanted to say that I’m still loving the blog – I haven’t spoke up much this season as my 4mo old keeps me busy these days! And I’m glad I’m not the only one starting to feel old, Gokey is the only one older than me anymore!

Man, it seems like everyone wants an Adam-Allison finale. I’d love that, personally.
I think you’re right about the lip-sync free nature of the group number. I hope so, because that’s the way it ought to be.

Well, I must say that Scott is truly a class act, and that Paula showed a lot of class, too, with her closing words to him. I will gladly admit that I am a grown man and I sat on the couch and cried when the show was over. I was ready for him to go, but it was still touching and a little bit sad to see it end for him. The truth is, though, he will do very well and have a great summer of touring. He is a very fortunate, and a very inspirational young man.
I am so tired of hearing people who get their feelings hurt because their favorite contestant isn’t getting a fair shake for one reason or another.
I don’t care that Lil is black. It’s her countrified drawl and lackluster performances that will cause her to leave. It’s not because she can’t get enough votes from black people.
I don’t care that Adam is gay and likes to french kiss boys. I am not a homophobe. I just don’t like men who sing like women. It’s not right wing gay-bashers who will keep him from getting votes, it is people who will vote for someone who likes to hear a different style than the one he offers. I like men to sing like men and women to sing like women. Just me, though, and I only vote with one phone at a time. Even the Adam-lovers are begging for him to stop with the screeching.
I don’t care that Allison is “only 16″ as we have heard a million times. She has a style that will appeal to a certain group of people, and it’s probably a larger group that the one Adam appeals to. She’s not just good for a kid. She’s really good, for anyone at any age.
I don’t care that Matt, Danny, and Kris are worship leaders at their home churches. They each bring their own thing to the table, and only one of them has had the show pimping them as the Christian Contestant.
I don’t care that Anoop is Indian (or whatever ethnic group he is) and that all the people in the phone centers working for HP and Microsoft are voting for him while at work. He’s immature and it shows through in his performance.
Let’s just lay it out there. People, voters, FANS are the ones who will decide this competition in the end. Regardless of how hard sites like Vote For The Worst try to mess it up, with numbers like 38 MILLLION voting, everything will come out it the wash and the public will decide who wins.
There aren’t enough racists to skew the results.
There aren’t enough homophobes to skew the results.
There aren’t enough Christians to skew the results.
There aren’t enough atheists to skew the results.
There aren’t enough blind/handicapped people to skew the results.
There aren’t enough black people to skew the results.
BUT, there are enough people in middle America that will cast enough votes to make sure that the winner will be the person who has the most universal mass appeal.
The gays and lesbians will like the winner.
The Christians will like the winner.
The heterosexual men will like the winner.
All women will like the winner.
The metrosexuals will like the winner.
College kids will like the winner.
Young marrieds will like the winner.
So, the way I see it, only one contestant can capture the votes from all the groups listed above, and that is the person who I believe will win. Who do you think it will be?

@Sherye:
Are you basically saying they should have kept him only because he’s blind? I mean, come on, that would not be fair to other contestants who don’t have a handicap. And besides, Scott was the worst singer in the top 8 and for once, there was the right choice.
Anyhow, now that he’s out, it gets really tough, because I like ALL of the rest… :/
And yeah… Pickler – I can’t stand her since that clip from the quiz… I really can’t have any sympathy for somebody with such a low degree of common knowledge and basic education…

And yeah, finally they didn’t lipsync, it didn’t sound overproduced as usual, but it was great and it didn’t hurt.
Hope they keep it this way.

no1special, Gokey is the only one older than I am as well. I remember in season 2 when almost everyone was older than me. Ahh, the younger days. Nice to see you, and congrats on the new baby!
Miljan, I was excited that many complaints from blogs seem to have been answered this week–no voiceover announcer and judges “strut” on tuesday, no lip-syncing on wednesday. I think they are listening!
Also, I was very disappointed by Pickler’s performance. In a world of country music with cute blonde young girls like Carrie Underwood, Taylor Swift, and even Julianne Hough (who isn’t nearly as good as the first two), Kellie’s performance didn’t even come close. She wants to run with the big dogs, but last night proved she doesn’t have the chops.

In my book, Allison Rocks!
That girl can really sing and can make you feel things…
Go Allison Go!!!

I just want to make a comment about Paula. I so appreciated her kind comments to Scott. I think, deep-down, she is a very kind individual, and, this year, it seems she is so much better able to articulate her thoughts.
