Every clever Beatles post title has been used (03/18/08)

Mo’ Beatles. I have zero expectations for tonight–I don’t want to be disappointed, but I know I could be fully impressed, too. Although this week is not a big one for the show – there are 10 people who will need to clear their summer schedule, and one who needs to brush up the resumes. This weeks makes or breaks the summer tour! Lets bring it!
01. Amanda Overmyer![]() |
Rating: +1/2 |
“Back In The USSR” – Good, not great. I mean, nothing out of the ordinary for Amanda. Her energy was up of course. But she might be entering the stage when Simon said people would start to get bored. I 100% agree with Simon on that. |
02. Kristy Lee Cook![]() |
Rating:![]() |
“You’ve Got To Hide Your Love Away” – Well, much better than last week. Not fabulous, though. There were some pitch problems, she changed up the melody, which was a bit annoying. Blah. |
03. David Archuleta![]() |
Rating:![]() |
“The Long And Winding Road” – Again, much better than last week. Still, not blow-me-out-of-the-water amazing. I liked the song choice for him, though. Clearly, he’s safe. |
04. Michael Johns![]() |
Rating: +1/2 |
“A Day In The Life” – I don’t know how I feel about that – the arrangement was a little too much with the “ahhs” in the middle. He can do better. But still not too bad. |
05. Brooke White![]() |
Rating: +1/2 |
“Here Comes The Sun” – Brooke really has a knack for picking songs for herself, because I thought it was a good, folky choice for her. She is ready to play the idol game! Not her greatest performance, (she looked a little awkward on the stage) and I wish she could have derivated from the straight melody a little because this song is really repetitive. Regardless, good, and she will be safe tomorrow. |
06. David Cook![]() |
Rating:![]() |
“Daytripper” – LOVED IT LOVED IT LOVED IT! Finally, a good performance tonight! Great arrangement, great performance. I disagree with Simon and thought it was awesome. What more can I say! |
07. Carly Smithson![]() |
Rating:![]() |
“Blackbird” – Good, however, I enjoy her more when she is rocking out. Her voice was a little too harsh for this song. She seems like she needs to let go a little. But still, I think Carly might be growing on me a little. |
08. Jason Castro![]() |
Rating:![]() |
“Michelle” – Um, I <3 this song. And I thought it was a good choice of song for hime. But he didn't connect with the french lyrics. He looked like he was trying really hard to not mess up the french. I'm not sure about that one. |
09. Syesha Mercado![]() |
Rating: +1/2 |
“Yesterday” – Syesha tamed the fro this week. She needed a standout performance, and she did pretty well. I didn’t expect her to come out and do a performance that was so vulnerable, but I thought it was the best we have heard her yet. GO SYESHA! |
10. Chikezie Eze![]() |
Rating:![]() |
“I’ve Just Seen A Face” – Ok, officially count me in as a Chikezie fan. When Ryan said Harmonica, I was like – dear god no, Taylor Hicks flashback. But I liked the arrangement, actually. He is such a likable guy, you have to love him. |
11. Ramiele Malubay![]() |
Rating:![]() |
“I Should Have Known Better” – The beginning was pretty bad, but it picked up in the end. She looked awkward on stage, and the fugly police may have to come and take away the outfit (fedora and all.) Ramiele is in bottom 3 danger. And what happened to the pimp spot? Not deserving of pimpage tonight. |
Top 11 is always a bad week. And tonight was no exception, Beatles or no Beatles.
Top tonight: the David duo followed by Syesha and Carly
Middle of the Road: everyone else
It will be a tough call on the bottom 3 tomorrow. Probably Amanda, Ramiele, and perhaps Kristy or even Jason. Who knows. This just goes to show that contestants need to step it up Every. Single. Week. with the exception of Archuleta, they are all on an equal field right now and week to week, they will jockey for position.
Who is ready for non-Beatles?

Is that the sound of Lennon and Harrison rolling over in their graves? I liked David Cook’s performance and the hippy’s Michelle. Simon was right though – he won that performance over with his smiley, cute face….I fell for it!

I really didn’t like Amanda. She has a range of about six notes. She can go home anytime now.
I thought Ramiele’s arrangement was poor. She needed the back-up singers for harmony. Otherwise the song doesn’t work.
Note to Michael Lee Johns, you cannot take a six minute song, cut it to ninety seconds and expect great results.
Note to Chikieze, there is no need to try to learn harmonica in a week just because other contestants play insturments. You’ve got a voice. It’s your insturment. Use it!!

Driller – SO TRUE about the Chikezie harmonica – unnecessary and very gimmicky. Yet, for some crazy reason it didn’t annoy the piss out of me. If you would have told me before the show that the harmonica incident would happen, I would have thrown up a little in my mouth and began carving the RIP Chikezie sign. But it’s weird, it was surprisingly acceptable.
But blah
Like everything else tonight.
gotta love top 11.

Your interview with JPL indicated that the contestants have stylists assist them with heir wardrobes. Are all of these stylists What Not To Wear rejects? You’re right, Ramiele was a fashion disaster. There was nothing attractive about her outfit last night.
She could have thrown on a pair of jeans and a t-shirt and been better looking.

David Cook rocks my world!! LOVED him!!! Carly had a bad song choice. Blackbird would have been ideal for Brooke or Jason. Syesha finally stepped up to the plate…parts of that performance were really brilliant. Michael Johns – I agree with you guys – bad arrangement – you can’t condense that song. Is anyone ready to hear him do I NEED YOU TONIGHT!! (Inxs) I agree with DrillerAA — Should Have Known Better is a song that works b/c of the vocal harmony….one of my favorite Beatles songs…but not good for a solo. Kristi, Amanda, and Ramiele bottom 3 for sure. I would put money on Kristi going home.

Bottom three:
Ramiele
Kristy
Jason
Person leaving us: Kristy
I like Michael Johns, but he just sucked last night. He might replace Jason as a back-up for the bottom three.

I think Amanda should go home. Simon was right last week – I can’t even understand her words. She slurs most of them. Overall this week was pretty boring.
I think Kristy will go home but I’d like to see Amanda leave.

Okay, so I’m posting this after I posted on the elimination, but since you put this up here and have a space for comments I feel as if I have to express my opinion. :D Like anyone’s listening.
ANYHOW, I thought I wanted to SLAP SIMON COWELL SILLY the entire night – maybe it was because I was a few vodka tonics in, maybe it was because Simon wasn’t taking his little blue pill. I don’t know. I disagreed with him LOTS. I thought Carly’s blackbird was really good (not great) and he ripped it because he doesn’t get the song. What a jerk (I had something else there but I don’t know what kind of language we can use on here – please inform).
Archuleta was of course good, but the BEST of the night was my hometown boy Dave Cook (once again biased). That was AWESOME, and once again, Scrooge threw Dave’s confidence in his face. What, you want them to all get up there and simper and snivel at you, Simon? *scowl*
I usually appreciate the man’s opinion, but last night he was snarky just to be snarky. And you’re right – this evening, on the whole, was MEH. Thanks, Laura! :D
