Idol giveth, and Idol giveth some more [04/25/07]

April 25th, 2007

Oh, idol, you are such a giver. You even give Seacrest a second take on live TV. You just never stop, do you? (At least not tonight, anyway.)

Ryan warns us of an elimination shock. This makes me nervous. Melinda is out, I bet. Crap. I voted for Chris last night because I thought he was on the fence. Crap, Crap, Crap. I hope it’s just a tease.

There is a special number we can call to give moola. Or on the internets.

Ellen is co-hosting – I enjoy Ellen, so this makes me happy. She gives us a quick rendition of Shoop, and then introduces Earth, Wind, and Fire, singing a medley of pure boogie. Perhaps this is foreshadowing of an Earth, Wind and Fire week next year? That could be fun.

Allstate sponsors a video of New Orleans (featuring a quick clip of LeRoy Wells!) and how it still needs so much help (so true!).

Up next is Quincy Jones who wrote a new song, “Time to Care” for the Idols to sing. I enjoy the song! Good job, Quincy!

Ben Stiller comes on to annoy people into donating. All I’m saying is thank god I can fast forward.

RESULT 1: Finally, we are onto the killings. Melinda is up first. And she is safe (thank god! so who is the shocker?)

Now we see Paula going to the Boys and Girls club and inspiring people with her dancing. eeee. Watch out kids. Up next is Il Devo. (Fast forwarding….) Props to the kick-ass Disney Concert Hall venue, though. I’m not a huge Frank Gehry fan, but the concert hall is outstanding.

Jack Black is up next, singing Kiss From a Rose (and better than Corey Clark, I think!) And Seal is there to give a critique. The antics just keep getting weirder and weirder.

RESULT 2: Back to the killings. Blake is up. And Blake is safe.

Carrie! is up next. But she is in Africa. That spoils my duet hopes. But Carrie sings I’ll Stand by You. And it’s a little too Music Video mixed with poverty -stricken dying children for me. Fortunately, Carrie didn’t forget her makeup artist when she went to visit this poor village. I still love her, though.

Rascal Flatts is up next singing “My Wish.” I enjoy them, too.

Paula takes us to Kentucky, and afterwards is on stage with her boobs barely stuffed in her shirt. Wow. Holy Clevage!

The Ford Music Video is up, starting with some Queen. Then moving onto Stayin Alive. With lots of badly dancing B-list celebrities. The favorite part in my house was the Kevin Bacon cameo.

RESULT 3: Phil is up, and Phil is safe.

Now, more on the Africa trip. Sad, depressing stuff. Josh Groban, backed by the African children’s choir, sings You Raise Me Up. They’re really pulling out the big guns, huh?

More Africa videos, this time about Malaria. But to lift spirits, up next is Kelly! Woot! She is singing “Up to the Mountains” and has cute brown hair! But I think she is wearing a mumu. But her singing is fantastic, per usual.

The Simpsons spoof could be the highlight of the evening.

RESULT 4: LaKisha is up. And LaKisha is safe. This is getting fishy.

Randy talks about school supplies for awhile… And then Celine sings with…Elvis? seriously? Um, this is just weird. And prerecorded. And Ryan, is that really TV history, Ryan?

What could an African tribute show be without Madonna? (and Angelina. Where is she?) She does a little cameo. Ryan tells us we have already raised $30 mil. That about covers Simon’s salary! Good work, America.

Tonight the craptallenge is the easiest yet.

Ellen introduces Annie Lennox singing Bridge Over Troubled Water. Now there’s a theme Idea – can we do Annie Lennox/Eurithmics week?

Results 5: Chris and Jordin are up. Chris and Jordin are both safe.

OUT TONIGHT: NO ONE

So next week, we are having a double killing. This week’s votes coupled with next week’s votes and we send off the bottom 2. That’s some horsecrap.

Finally, we get the 2 second Bono Cameo. We are left with his inspiring words, and the Idols singing out “Top of the Mountain.” And my TiVo cuts off halfway through.

Well, as far as this competition is concerned, this was 2 hours of complete filler. At least during the finale, we get a result. I feel kind of jipped. Thoughts? I’m out (to watch Lost.)

I’m really kind of torn over tonight, it was a good cause, and some of the stories were touching…but i do feel a little jipped, like we were pulled into watching a 2 hour telethon that really went nowhere, and we have to wait a week for the results of it

I loved the Josh Grobin / African Children’s chior’s You Raise me Up, very awesome.

What did you think it was going to be? They have been talking about this since the beginning. I feel bad for you that you feel jipped sitting in your nice warm house on your nice comy couch while Am Idol is actually doing something really worthwhile, like trying to raise money to help dying and poor people. Hope you donated. But don’t worry you can go back to thinking of no one but yourself and how important the AM Idol contest is next week.

Ugh. this was the worst crap I’ve ever seen on tv. The ridiculous looking and sounding Earth Wind and Fire, the awful all-white outfits, the completely forgettable Quincy Jones song, Celine freaking Dion, the stupid video, Bono acting like he was too cool to be there.. it reminds me of the osmonds or the sonny and cher show back in the 70′s: pure unadulterated cheese. Yes. you guys were gypped.

Oh, I liked it. Finally, they are using their celebrity for a good cause. And the sponsors are chipping in. Am I am chipping in . . . I have gotten at least $50 worth of entertainment out of this show, and so I’m giving it back. I liked Ellen at the Disney Concert Hall — I liked Josh Groban. I liked Kelly Clarkson. I liked Quincy (very “We Are The World”).

Has Kelly Clarkson(I do love her!!) gained for few lbs, or is it just my imagination???

What a waste of 2 hrs! It was a telethon with some really dumb acts. The Simpsons and Kelly were the only things worth watching. I understand it was for a good cause and I’m happy they raised money but I felt very gypped (and admittedly annoyed) at the end. I have two charities that I continuously contribute money, I didn’t want to see sad stories quilting me into donating to their specific charity. I just wanted to see someone get booted.

I’m happy anytime anyone raises awareness about the atrocities on this globe, and I’m thrilled that they earned money. I would have preferred, however, that they distinguished between a true results show and the glorified telethon they had last night.

With the exception of Kelly (despite that dress), the children’s choir and their toothless smiles (too adorable and way better than Grobin) and Lisa Simpson, the night was a waste of what could have been a celebration of Idol past and present. But that, of course, would not fit into the vision of Idol future, which is to turn into a 21st Century Ed Sullivan Variety Hour.

    I felt gypped too.

Cheese-tastic for sure. It did tug at my heart strings, but definitely felt jipped at the end. Ben Stiller — so ANNOYING! Thank god for the tivo fastfoward. Elvis crap – so bad. The Simpson’s – hilarious. Kelly in a mumu – fantastic. I love that girl.

I come from a poor, war torn, third world counrty, may be that’s why this show touched me so much, it made me want to go out there and make a change.
But i couldn’t get why my kid couldn’t appreciate what he had, i thought seeing all this could have helped him count his blessings, but i guess i’ve spoilt him by giving him so much that he just wants more and can’t quite see past his own needs…. what’s your excuse?
i don’t mean this in a bad way or be judgemental, but really you are so cynical…..i’ve been comming to your page from last year and i really liked it a lot, but this year i’ve seen a huge change in you…. you seem to have lost your compassion and at times you have been quite vitriolic.I don’t live in america, i’m not an immgrant i just happened to love this show.

Just to clarify, I felt jipped because the entire show they kept saying “It is going to be the most shocking results!” and then they eliminated no one – there were no results. I didn’t mind the show as a whole. I was actually quite entertained by the whole thing. And don’t get me wrong, I think it’s an awesome cause, and I’m glad thy are using their popularity for good. But, if they wanted to do a telethon, then tell me what it is – don’t tell me its a results show when it isn’t. I still would have tuned in for a special bonus episode (because I will watch anything they tell me – I’m a sucker for this show!)
