so good to be back on this stage [03/13/07]
March 13th, 2007
‘Tis Diana Ross night, folks! Ryan introduces us the big, fancy stage, and reminds us of all the folks who got their start there – hmmm…no mention of Ruben….
Ryan mentions the bigger band and the “massive” audience (of 600 or so.) The kids are introduced, the judges are introduced, and the two hours of fun has been kicked off. Next, we get to see a DR montage, who has aged a lot from what I remember, but still looks decent – how old is she anyway?
Lets get to the singing!
01. Brandon Rogers![]() |

“Can’t Hurry Love” – In the dead-man spot, Brandon comes to the finals with a weird song choice for him. Hmmmm – it’s not very exciting, his voice was a little crack-y, he had some questionable Elvis dance moves. I just don’t know. It got better as the song went on, but it was a little blah. |
02. Melinda Doolittle![]() |
Rating: + 1/2 |
“Home” – Melinda says the hardest part is the is the high heels which eventually spurs Simon asking Ryan to come out of the closet. Melinda and I both put our hands over our faces at that exchange. Live TV, boys. So anyway, back to the singing…Fabulous, as always. I don’t think I was quite as excited about that as the last few weeks, but probably because of the song choice. I’m not in tears, like Paula, but still, flawless. |
03. Chris Sligh![]() |
Rating: + 1/2 |
“Endless Love” – Sligh and Ross share hair. How cute. He changed the arrangement, and I can appreciate an effort made, but the arrangement was very Richard Marx meets Coldplay to me. He sang it well but not fantastic, and honestly, knowing how the song is supposed to go, I was a bit distracted. I think it’s a performance that I will appreciate much more the second time. A B for effort, Chris. |
04. Gina Glocksen![]() |
Rating: + 1/2 |
“Love Child” – There is no doubt that Gina has a good voice, but Paula was right (what?) that it was kind of shout-y. It wasn’t awful, and the upbeat song was kind of fun, but it just didn’t have any yo. |
05. Sanjaya Malakar![]() |
Rating:![]() |
“Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” – Sanjaya went for Ross hair, as well. This song was WAY too big for his voice. Its seriously like listening to a high school talent show. There were a bunch of off-key notes. ugh. Where’s Sundance? |
06. Haley Scarnato![]() |
Rating:![]() |
“Missing You” – The beginning was really weak – breath support, girl! You can sing both soft and strong. Oh, wait – a word mishap? Did I call that one? But the latter half of the song was mainly off key, especially those big notes were really flat. I think Haley’s exit is long overdue. Cute girl, but seriously. |
07. Phil Stacey![]() |
Rating:![]() |
“I’m Gonna Make You Love Me” – I was actually pleasantly surprised by this. The beginning was still shaky, but once he got into it, it wasn’t half bad. In fact, one of the best of the night so far. |
08. LaKisha Jones![]() |
Rating:![]() |
“God Bless the Child” – KiKi is up next rockin a swanky long white dress. I think that was the best we have seen from LaKisha – excellent song choice (finally) and greal jazzy vocal ability. I am back on the LaKisha train after tonight. |
09. Blake Lewis![]() |
Rating: + 1/2 |
“Hangin On” – Well, aside from the falsetto which seemed a bit forced tonight, the overall performance was decent. The reason I liked this rearrangement rather than Chris’s was that Chris re-arranged the chord structure of the song, while blake just “re-mixed” it and but a different beat behind it. So I actually enjoyed the song, despite the fact that his vocals weren’t the strongest tonight. |
10. Stephanie Edwards![]() |
Rating: + 1/2 |
“Love Hangover” – Tonight is the first time I have truly enjoyed Stephanie’s performance. Before, I just thought she was pretty good, but I thought she rocked tonight. Her delivery and her stage presence were very polished and professional. Good for her! I disagree with the judges, and I thought it was a good arrangement of the song. |
11. Chris Richardson![]() |
Rating:![]() |
“The Boss” – Well his stage presence was good, but his vocals were a bit all over the place. Actually agreed with Simon that the vocals were pretty weak. And I know he can sing better. Nerves, perhaps? |
12. Jordin Sparks![]() |
Rating:![]() |
“If We Hold on Together” – Well, props to her for stepping it up again tis week. She is really a very versitile contestant to go from Pat Benetar to this. If the HelloKitty voters could switch to her, I would have no problem. I’m throwing my vote towards her! |
Best Tonight: LaKisha and Jordin
Worst Tonight: Brandon, Haley, and SANJAYA
Going home: I still think Haley has the weakest fanbase, and coupled with her performance tonight, I think she could go. But if it is either of the 3 listed above, I’ll be happy.

I’m sorry girls, but Chris R. was a mess!!! Simon was absolutely right. There was nothing good about his performance. Unfortunately, that could be said for most of the guys tonight.

Jordin and KiKi stole the show. I hope they never do Diana Ross again. It was one of the more boring shows they’ve had. I am a big fan of Lakeesha from the start- she and Melinda make it look so easy.
