my famous and world-renowned predictions
March 11th, 2007
Well, maybe not so much “world-renowned” but I am making my annual prediction list before the commencement of the final 12. Here they are:
12. Haley Scarnato
11. Sanjaya Malakar
10. Brandon Rogers
9. Phil Stacey
8. Stephanie Edwards
7. Chris Sligh
6. Jordin Sparks
5. Gina Glocksen
4. LaKisha Jones
3. Chris Richardson
2. Blake Lewis
1. Melinda Doolittle
Let me walk you through my logic… Despite the wretchedness that is the season 6 male singers, I think Haley will murder Diana Ross next week, and be the first one outed. Perhaps she will have a lyrics mishap a la Melissa McGhee. Next to go will be a string of the weaker guys: Sanjaya first because if his soft voice wasn’t eaten up on the stage of the semi-finals, on the finals stage we may not be able to hear him at all. Brandon and Phil will go next, because they just won’t be able to compete with the rest of the singers. Stephanie will go next for lack of a bigger fanbase. I predict Chris Sligh going in the middle based on a series of bad song choices, and I feel that his exit will have been long overdue. Jordin and Gina will go next, just based on tough competition and tough theme weeks. And here is my big upset prediction, LaKisha will go in the number 4 spot. I have a feeling that she is going to pull an Ace Young, and peak during the first week and head downhill. Her voice is great, but I have an inkling things will get boring from her. Then Chris Richardson will take the #3 spot a la Elliott Yamin, and Blake and Melinda will end up in the finals, making it probably the most diverse final 2 yet. Then, of course, Melinda will be standing center stage with the falling confetti, because seriously, how could this girl NOT win.
I am 2 for 3 in winners predictions for the last 3 seasons (I put my money on Daughtry, and sadly lost that bet), so hopefully the Doolittle will pull it out and put me at 75%.
So what do you guys think? What are your predictions?
One more comment about the season thus far: I have to give props to the judges this season, and most notably Paula. Ever since her pre-season wacko media frenzy incident, she has actually been very insightful and given some poignant and helpful comments. All of the judges have been honest and “keepin’ it real” (thanks, Randy), and Simon actually seems interested to be there. This in quite a contrast to last season, where Simon seemed bored out of his mind and just very apathetic to the whole competition. And this in a season with an arguably less talented group of contestants, too. I don’t know if Nigel sent the three of them off to Happy Camp over the summer, but whatever he did, it worked. So, yay for the judges–so far, so good.

I think Haley will make it past the first 4. Those guys are weak. Very weak. Chris Sligh will be the Elliot of this year. Blake will fade and burn early because his beat box crud will get old fast. As you know, there is always a “surprise you’re gone” to one of the superstars between 4th and 6th place. Last year it was Daughtry going in 4th. Either LaKisha or Melinda will go early.
My Order:
12. Phil
11. Brandon
10. Sanjaya
09. Stephanie
08. Haley
07. Chris R.
06. Blake
05. Jordin
04. LaKisha
03. Chris S.
02. Gina
01. Melinda
The first 3 are the weakest links and will go fast. Unfortunately, if you go to the tour, that will mean being subjected to the Sanjaya Singing Torture. Stephanie is a generic Whitney wannabe. They always drop fast. Haley will go next as the McPhee look will only get you so far. Chrs R will go next due to lack of fan base. Blake will get old fast and will drop earlier than most think. Jordin is stronger than most think and will hang around for a while. The next will be the surprise of the year. Either Melinda or LaKisha will go here. It will depend on whose fans get complacent. Chris S. has a big fan base and that will carry him far, but the one that is a “new face” that AI hasn’t had before is Gina. A female rocker. I think that will carry her to the 2 slot. Leaving Melinda to take the confetti shower at the end of the season and in one of the few cases where the absolute best singer of the season wins.

While I do not want Brandon to win, I can’t see him not being in the top 3. He’ll ride showmanship and general likeability at least that far.
The girls are too homogenous, there will be splitting of their votes b/c they really don’t have too much individuality. All amazing singers, but all similar.

We’re pretty much in agreement, although I think Gina may fly under the radar into the top five, and I expect Sanjaya to crack into the ten. The guys, aside from Blake, are pretty much interchangeable, and will leave in any combination between 10-6.
I also have LaKisha getting Tamyra’d/LaToya’d/Daughtry’d.
I fear it’s gonna be a bland season.

what about gracin’d? Oh wait…that doesn’t work so well, huh? :)
