stuck in the middle with you [03.08.07]

March 8th, 2007

Results show night, and a big one at that; who will get to sing on the big stage next week?

We kick off the episode with a group song! Did you hear that? Kicking it off with a group song! The Idol gods are shining down on me tonight. So they are singing “Stuck in the Middle with You” which is so weird because I heard this last weekend on the radio and I thought to myself “this is a good Idol song.” My premonitions, I tell you. By the way, most entertaining group song of the season by far. I had to rewind it and watch it again. Woot for GOOD group songs!

After we are reminded about the “special announcement” and Carrie Underwood.

Getting right to it, LaKisha and Blake are called to center stage, and both cruise on through to the metal-bar-stools-of-fame (MBSoF). Chris Sligh is called to center staged and is faked-out by a commercial break. But cruises on through.

Jordin Sparks is up next, and also gets a MBSoF. Phil takes center stage next, and says he is worried. But he moves on, too. Jared is up next. And Jared is out. He sings us out with an adequate but non-original performance.

Pimping the cell phone challenge…again. annoying.

Melinda and Brandon are called to center stage, and both of the backup singers receive a MBSoF. Gina and Chris Richardson are called to center stage, and both make it through.

But now we get Carrie pimpage, singing her new single “Wasted” (though its old to me as I have listened to her album multiple times over – I still love this girl). Fabulous, as usual. You’ve still got it, Carrie!

Antonella and Stephanie are both called to center stage and Antonella is going home (as my jaw dropped to the floor). Believe you me, I am pleasantly surprised by this one. Goodbye, Antonella, thanks for driving up my website traffic! And she sings out in a terrible way, but she is sad and flustered, so whatever.

Haley and Sabrina step up next, and Sabrina is already crying. Sabrina is out, and for the biggest shocker of the night, Haley makes it through. How craptastic. But we get to hear En Vogue again, so there is a positive. Bye Sabrina, I will miss you – you were interesting and fun. Plus, we have to have some sort of disaster in the top 12 *cough*Haley*cough*

Ryan tells us tonight is American Idol’s 200th episode. woo! Idol’s big announcement is that it is becoming the next Sally Struthers, helping the African children. The top 6 will basically turn into a telethon, to make a long story short. Good cause, though. I will vote on that night. But one question: so did Ryan say Bono will be on or just supporting the cause? Cause Bono on idol would blow my mind more than Prince on Idol.

Sundance and Sanjaya are up last. Sanjaya makes it through, and Sundance gets the axe. Another surprise of the evening. I really thought he did enough in the last two weeks that make up for that disaster in week 1. Too bad.

OUT TONIGHT:

And the sob-story video montage ensues.

Well are you surprised? I kind of am. I had prepared myself for a possible Sabrina exit, but I really never thought Sundance would get the boot.

This will be a busy weekend – making my predictions, mapping the final contestants and some overall website housekeeping. Check back next week when we hit the big stage. Oh, I hope it’s the rumored Beatles night!

i believe Ryan implied when LaKisha and Blake were in the circle that next week would be Diana Ross week…i may have misunderstood that though

I liked Sanjaya before the Top 24 started, so hopefully he can find some energy to use while up on stage. And personally, I am happy to see Sundance go, he bugged me. I thought the biggest surprise was Sabrina vs. Haley. I have not been impressed with Haley at all…she is so kareoke. But I never thought Sabrina was going to make it very far, so I don’t feel it was a big loss because I don’t think Haley (or Sanjaya) will make Top 10.

Now that we start eliminating individuals, regardless of gender, don’t be suprised to see three guys eliminated before the first girl goes home. While Haley may be the weakest female left, she is still better than Sanjaya, Phil, and possibly Brandon.

oh, Sam i think you’re right. Diana Ross would probably be hosting 60s/mowtown/soul night. i hope its one of those 3…those nights always seem to go well (i believe it was season 3 top 12 week, for example)

Diana-osaur Ross. Good Grief. They should knock off the oldies and just start week after week of former AI people. A Daughtry week, a Pickler week, a Clarkson week, a Carrie week, a Bo week, etc. They have enough to run relevant singer after relevant singer without having to dig up the bones of long lost singers who should stay stuck in the tarpits. Now, if you want to bring Tina Turner or Aretha to the stage, well, those oldies are still goodies.

Maybe a Slayer week or an Iron Maiden week. That would be cool.

Anyway, I was a bit surprised that Antonella got the boot. All in all she sucked badly and should never have made the 24. I think any crediblitiy that Vote For The Worst had is now gone. They have lost everyone they had supported this year. Enjoy oblivion guys. Looking forward to the season Laura, Beth, Driller. Have a good weekend.

Ever Since The Auditions, Jared Cotter was my favorite person EVER! He has great singing and he is also handsome..But I love him and I just could’nt believe he got booted out!
