the day after…

May 11th, 2006

OK. I’m better now. I’ve had time to mourn, time to recover, and time to (figuratively) eat a pint of Ben and Jerry’s. Now that I can stand back and look at the Chris elimination in the whole grand scheme of things, his elimination is probably for the better. Let’s look at the facts:

19 and Simon Fuller would never let him make the kind of album he wants to make. His ideal album probably wouldn’t be G-rated, and it would definitely not be frilly. Chris conforming to frilly? Not so much.

I mean take Kelly Clarkson for example. Her first album was with Fuller…It was moderately successful, she had two OK singles and that was that. But she said enough with this crap, dumped Fuller and 19, took the bull by the horns and made a second album that is completely kicking ass. But she lost a lot of momentum from the show by that point, and had to make it up.

Chris is better for not having to deal with Fuller (unless of course they opt to sign him anyway…which of course has yet to be seen, but it unlikely.) He can go on to make a rock album and/or front a band. Speaking of which…

MJ’s Blog had a link from TMZ.com which is reporting that Chris will be on Extra tonight and will be given an offer to front a band (probably Fuel). It will be interesting to see what comes of that. Clearly this is a partial media stunt because he is obviously contractually bound to idol until they set him free. But if Fuel is willing to wait until after the summer tour/press tour etc., they could have a good fit for both. Obviously Fuel wants to tap in on Chris’s fanbase, but would this be a good deal for Chris? Is he too good for these guys now?

Lets look at the success of the 4 spot in seasons past…Tamyra – recorded album, never heard any of it on the radio. Josh Gracin – moderately successful in the country genre (and for not being a country fan whatsoever, i actually think the whole album is pretty good). LaToya – recorded album that is background cocktail party music (read my review of the album) And we have yet to hear from the Federov.

Not hugely successful in the four spot i guess. Today we might think that Chris is too good, but once the idol phenomenon has worn off, It might be a lucrative deal for both the band and Chris. I guess that remains to be seen.

And all this talk of conspiracy and phone lines being out of order is not true. I actually voted for Chris at the very end on Tuesday, because i saw that he was down on the dial idol chart. I got 4 votes in and two busy signals between 10:58 and 11:00. (I know, big help i am, only 4 votes) But anyway, I’m sure 19 entertainment et.al. are gleeful with all the buzz today. The ratings should skyrocket next week.

OK, I’m done ranting. Comments are appreciated.

First of all, I really enjoy reading your blogs and ratings.
Secondly, Chris probably wouldn’t have much trouble getting into the speed. I was reading somewhere that he peaked to fast, thus fell apart before anyone had expected. Carpool of gals were pretty upset here in the west for Chris’s departure but you know what, he’s gonna rock! My husband and I like Taylor cause we like his type of music. He also has a popularity, may be because many people had known him even before he was in Idol. Her mother being a voice teacher Katharine has the advantage of knowing best techniques of music and I think she is really good. Elliott is pretty good as well. I picked Kathreen to me the winner this year. But you never know what happens. It will be intersting to see what happens next weeks.

Thank GOD!! A voice of reason! From my readings in tht blogs and chats, I have found Chris’ fans to be very vindictive and hateful. their commetns about the other contestants are always derogatory. I take the time to actuall learn as much as I can about each contestant and I vote each night for the best that night…as you are SUPPOSED to do. But NOOOOOO. People pick a favorite and vote for them no matter how bad they perform that night. I like Chris. i really do. But even for me, his aarogance was beginning to wear me down. Like the underwear crack. Who gives a damn? And what does that have to do with a singing contest? I have switched over to Elliot.

When I found out Katherine was singing “Over The Rainbow” I thought, o man this is going to be bad, but once i heard the performance, it was awsome! I still do like Taylor better, but still, I think they all have the same chance of winning.
