First we had Queen, now the King (05/09/06)

May 9th, 2006

Tonight they’re singin The King! And Ryan is sporting three-piece suit - we know we’re hittin’ the big time now. Tommy Motolla is the mentor of the week, who they met after their pimped out flight to Memphis. Lets see the fruits of their labor..

01. Taylor Hickstaylor Rating:teeth Jailhouse Rock - That was awesome. Perfect song choice, appropriate dance moves. The vocals were spot on and fantastic. I loved that he started in the audience. I completely disagree with Simon and thought that as a live performance, that was very entertaining.
02. Chris Daughtrychris Rating:big+1/2 Suspicious Minds - Chris is pimpin complete with sunglasses! It was pretty good vocally - not the best we’ve seen from him, though. I just felt there was something lacking. An energy was mssing or maybe the vocals were off. It was pretty good, though.
03. Elliott Yaminelliott Rating:big If I Could Dream - There were some weird things about that song - like ow he pronounced his “R”s like clay aiken. The vocals were all on in terms of pitch, But his diction just seemed off tonight. Eh.
04. Katharine McPheekatharine Rating:big Hound Dog/All Shook Up - I believe there was some word slip-up-age in the middle, but the energy was really good on that. I partially agree with Simon that it was borderline manic, esp. with the lyric drop. But it wasn’t that bad.
05. Taylor Hickstaylor Rating:big In the Ghetto - (Side note - Recall when Eric Cartman sang this on South Park…hilarious) I really enjoyed the rendition tonight. He is really a great vocalist, as well as an entertainer.
06. Chris Daughtrychris Rating:half+1/2 A Little Less Conversation - I had big expectations for Chris singing this song, and honestly, I was a bit unimpressed with that performance. I thought he sang too much of the straight melody, and it was a little uninteresting. I hope he isn’t in trouble this week.
07. Elliott Yaminelliott Rating:teeth Trouble - I really liked Carrie doing this song last year, but i think I liked Elliott’s take on it equally as well. I liked his slow jazz tone. I thought it was vocally amazing. SAVE ELLIOTT!
08. Katharine McPheekat Rating:half+1/2 Can’t Help Falling in Love - First off, let me say that it was ALMOST amazing, and the beginning was amazing, but i think her high notes were straining, and I thought the orchetra was WAY too overpowering. At the beginning of the song, I thought she would nail this, but now i’m not so sure.

Ok, so this is clearly the best final four, and probably the best final four performance show yet. But i think if i had to rank these guys based on PERFORMANCES TONIGHT… it would be Taylor, Elliott, Chris, and Kat. I think Taylor and Chris’s fanbases will carry him though, and swing votes will go to Elliott, leaving Kat in some serious “Trouble” (hahaha). We shall see tomorrow!

I thought Chris did really awesome for his second song, A Little Less Conversation, regardless of what many others say. The way he sang it…that was the true spirit of the song. Plus, not everyone could have pulled off those low notes which such..professionalism. Kudos to Chris!
